Muharram opens the Hijri year. It is not fireworks and countdown; it is a quiet reset after the Hajj season, named from the Hijrah — the Prophet’s migration to Medina that marks year one.
In Turkey, Islamic New Year in 2027 is expected on Sunday, 6 June 2027 (1 Muharram 1449). This uses the Umm al-Qura calculation. Moon sighting can shift a day — follow Diyanet and your local mosque.
The Islamic calendar (Hijri, Arabic lunar calendar) follows the moon; the Gregorian year follows the sun. It starts from the Hijrah. A month opens when the new crescent is sighted. Dates on this 2027 grid are estimates — moon sighting can move a day.
